How to Receive Inner Healing & Deliverance

Chapter 1

My Induction

Tuesday, November 8, 2011, is a morning I will never forget. The phone rang at 1:30 AM, and to my surprise, it was the husband of a very close friend of mine.  He said he didn’t know whom else to call because his wife was manifesting a demon. I knew for a fact that she was a Christian, so how could this be?  I told him I would be right over and hung up the phone.  I was a little confused.  Maybe he was mistaken.  Maybe she wasn’t really manifesting a demon. I called back. “Are you sure she is manifesting a demon?”
He said, “Listen!” and held the phone so I could hear her.  I cannot describe the vile sounds and growls that I heard.  It was, without a doubt, demonic!

I was convinced.  I hung up the phone and drove to their house. Her husband escorted me upstairs to the room where she was.  It was completely quiet.  I looked in the room but didn’t see anyone. He pointed to the opposite side of the room to the opposite side of the bed. As I walked around, what I saw was almost comical. She had stuffed her head under the bed, but her body was still hanging out as if she was trying to hide but couldn’t fit. She was lying on her stomach completely motionless. A perfect meme for that moment would say, “If I can’t see you, you can’t see me!”

I was too frightened to touch or move her.  My heart was racing.  I had no idea what to expect next.  Moments before I heard her growl over the phone, so I didn’t know if she was going to jump out at me, attack me, spin her head in a 360.  I asked her husband to pull her out and flip her over. I really didn’t know what to do next.  With adrenaline running full force throughout my body, I started rebuking and binding, demanding this demon to leave her. It didn’t leave.  I quoted Scripture.  It still didn’t leave.  Maybe it didn’t hear me. I shouted my commands louder, “Come out in Jesus’ name!” Nothing happened. What do I do now?

I tried every idea I could think of. In the Bible, Jesus asked the demon’s name (Mark 5) so I tried the same. I commanded it to reveal its name, and with a very deep voice of a man, it growled, “Tres”. I assumed this meant there were three demons since “tres” is the number three in Spanish. What do I do now with that information? I had no clue.  We continued to bind and demand the demon’s submission to the name of Christ.  At about 4 AM after two hours of failed attempts, I was discouraged and felt like I was completely out of my league. I was almost convinced that this assignment was way over my head.  I considered calling my pastor to ask for his assistance when I thought, “God gave me this assignment so He must have equipped me. He wants me to do this!” I finally stepped back and prayed. “God, what are we dealing with here? Who is this demon?” Immediately once I prayed everything started to change. It was like my eyes were opened, and I knew what to do. Revelation came! I noticed every time the husband would leave the room and come back the demon would go crazy by flipping and flopping her around on the floor. God was showing me the husband was key to this deliverance. Divine knowledge came: the demon was threatened by the husband because the husband had spiritual authority over his wife.

Ephesians 5:23 “For a husband has authority over his wife just as Christ has authority over the church.”

This is important for you to remember: demons recognize authority. This is why the husband was a bigger threat than I was! If you are a child of God, you have no reason to fear. The demons fear YOU because of the One in you!

The demons were thrashing her around so much that her husband literally had to straddle her to hold her down so she wouldn’t be injured. Then the Lord gave me the names of the three demons – Unforgiveness, Hate, and Bitterness.  Next, the Lord revealed when they entered her. She and her husband had been wounded deeply by someone and by refusing to forgive them, the demons had legal access to invade her soul. I told the husband what the Lord was revealing to me. The demons really started thrashing around then! The husband started crying and repenting of the unforgiveness that allowed these demons to enter. Once he finished repenting, the demons were still. (I did not tell the husband to repent, he just did.)  I placed my hands on the husband’s back and told him, “Now you cast it out”. The demons started pleading and begging for help, but we didn’t hear a man’s voice this time. It whispered so pitifully, “Help me. Help me.” The demons were pretending to be the wife begging for help.  We both knew it wasn’t her.  Her husband gave one last command to leave; she coughed and gagged for a minute. It was over. Completely exhausted she sat up, looked at me, and in complete confusion asked, “What are you doing here? What’s going on?”  She had no recollection whatsoever of what had just taken place over the last three hours!

Processing My First Deliverance

Later that same day my pastor was gracious enough to meet with me and spend three hours answering all my questions. What in the world did I just experience?  How did she have a demon when I knew she was a Christian?  Does that mean I could have a demon? If so, how do I get rid of it? Why couldn’t I get it to obey? Why did it take us so long to make it leave? Is there a more effective way to do deliverance? What is the correct method to do this? How do you know if the demon is really gone? What does she do now to stay free? How did the husband have more authority than I did when he wasn’t living a Christian lifestyle? I think he probably had demons himself!
